What Do We Know About CBD Oil on Health?
Science NewsCBD (cannabidiol) is among the chemical compounds known as CBD gummies found in the marijuana plant. Unlike the popular marijuana made by drying the cannabis plant, CBD oil in Canada is made by extracting CBD from Cannabis sativa then diluted with oil, also referred to as a carrier oil, for example, hemp or coconut oil.
Identical to Marijuana, CBD oil is believed to offer relief from chronic pain reduce depression and anxiety, but this is apart from the psychoactive effect marijuana causes. The psychoactive effect caused by marijuana is due to a compound known as Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) absent in CBD oil.
This article will take a look into some of the benefits believed to be caused by the use of CBD oil.
Provides relief from chronic pain
Researchers have discovered that CBD interacts with cannabinoid receptors, which are part of a specialized system in the body involved in regulating the immune system and pain called the Endocannabinoid System (ESC). These receptors primarily receive chemical signals and help in cell response. It results in pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects that enable the management of pain.
Reduces depression and anxiety
Depression is a mental health disorder that could have adverse effects. It is mainly treated with anti-depressants which can cause insomnia, headache, or drowsiness. However, it is believed that if taken in low doses, CBD oil helps reduce anxiety; this is because CBD can act on brain receptors (serotonin), which help regulate social behaviour and mood. It has even been used in treating people who have post-traumatic stress disorder.
Lessens skin conditions
It is believed that CBD oil can be used to treat some skin conditions like acne and eczema due to its anti-inflammatory properties. For example, its balancing impact on the flow of the skin’s oil can decrease excess sebum production. Aging is not a condition, but who loves wrinkles? CBD oil is also believed to have antioxidant properties that help reduce wrinkles.
Lowers blood pressure
Recent research has shown that CBD oil is linked to some benefits for the heart, like reducing blood pressure, which causes heart attacks, stroke, etc. For the sake of this study, nine healthy men took a similar dose to Placebo and found out that after taking it, their blood pressure lowered after exposure to a stressful condition.
Regulates seizures
Research has shown that CBD oil helps control seizures. However, its effectiveness is not particular, specifically on epileptic people.
Reduces nerve pain
CBD oil is believed to reduce nerve pain. This is through CBD binding itself to glycine receptors found in the brain. These receptors help regulate the speed at which nerve signals transmit between nerve cells.
These are some of the benefits of CBD oil. However, none of these benefits is 100% proven. That is why CBD is yet to be added to any drugs or food. Different people react to CBD oil differently biologically. Therefore, it would be wise to think twice before consuming it.
