The Science Behind Vaping

Science News

There are several anecdotes about vaping articles pour vapoteurs terrebonne, but what is the science behind vaping?

Vaping

Vaping is inhaling aerosolized e-liquid through a device. The chemical that the device heats creates a fog-like smoke similar to what traditional cigarettes produce. However, the particles a person inhales through vaping can also damage the lungs, just like tobacco smoking. Also, vaping can be addictive.

E-Cigarette

E-cigarettes are cordless devices vapers used to heat e-liquid and turn it into steam. An e-liquid contains artificial flavors, chemicals, and nicotine mixed in a pod or cartridge.

The Effects of Nicotine on the Brain

The brain continues to develop until a person turns 25, but nicotine can affect this process. Note that planning, impulse control, and decision-making are the three last things that mature in the brain. The tendency is for the youth to become easily dependent.

Nicotine preys on the reward system of the brain, aka the limbic system. The limbic system is responsible for regulating emotional responses and stimuli. It also stimulates the production of dopamine, a hormone that gives the feeling of gladness. People tend to become dependent on nicotine because it gives them a happy feeling.

Teenagers and Nicotine

Though several areas in the United States prohibit children from using e-cigarettes, the government has not been very reactive to the efforts done by manufacturers to advertise their products to children.

Doctors believe that inhaling a lot of nicotine through vaping or e-cigarettes could cause a significant change in adolescent brain development. The National Jewish Health experts in Denver are continually urging the Food and Drug Administration to act and protect children from the consequences of vaping.

The Dangers of Vaping to the Youth

  • Dependence on nicotine
  • Uncontrolled amounts of nicotine combined with toxic chemicals
  • Changes brain development
  • Increases the probability of smoking

Inhaling Harmful Chemicals

Typically, e-cigarette liquids contain flavoring chemicals, nicotine, glycerol, and propylene glycol. Though e-cigarettes do not have tar, which is carbon monoxide produced in tobacco smoking, it does have dangerous chemicals that are bad for the heart, brain, and lungs. Below are some of those chemicals:

  • Nicotine

Nicotine can cause addiction and lung, heart, and genetic problems. Inhaling the said substance can increase the production of phlegm and saliva, blood pressure and heart rate, and cholesterol levels.

  • Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is gas people use in disinfectants, household products, building materials, and more. In other words, it can cause cancer. Its powerful odor can irritate a person’s eyes, skin, nose, and throat, causing nausea, wheezing, and coughing.

  • Acetaldehyde

Acetaldehyde can irritate the respiratory tract, throat, mucous membranes, eyes, and skin. Additionally, it can cause hallucinations, drowsiness, headache, nausea, and vomiting when a person takes high concentrations.

  • Diacetyl

Diacetyl is a chemical that adds flavor to e-cigarettes and other liquids. Inhaling heated diacetyl can cause lung diseases, such as bronchiolitis obliterans. The said disease is irreversible, which means it is incurable.

Many claim that vaping is better than smoking. However, vaping also has its cons when it comes to a person’s health. So, it is always better to stick to the facts and stay informed.
