Robotic X-37B Space Plane on a New Mysterious Mission Launched by Space ForceScience News
On May 17th, the mysterious X-37B had a successful launch for its sixth mission from Florida. Riding on top of a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket, it blasted off at 9:14 in the morning EDT. There was a 24-hour delay with the launch due to poor weather conditions.
It is still a secret what the purpose of the mysterious mission is. Officials from Space Force only mentioned that it will do various experiments and tests in space. They added that these experiments and tests will make the development of space capabilities more efficient and effective which are required to keep the space domain superiority.
The mission will have more experiments because of the cylindrical extension at the bottom of the plane. The new attachment will make it possible to test new technologies and conduct more experiments.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, officials said that they had to put some planned missions on hold. The launch of the next GPS navigation satellite mission GPS 3 SV03 is delayed for a couple of months to ensure the safety of all the ground control crew members. Nevertheless, it was good that the mysterious mission was able to push through.
