¿Y, después de la verdad ? El espacio público y las luchas por la memoria en la post CVR, Perú

After Truth, é-misferica, 7:2 (2011)

Résumé :
Seven years have passed since Perú’s TRC issued its final report, amidst an initial wave iof optimism and euphoria for truth-telling. What has happened with the truth since then ? Since the CVR’s final report much has taken place that seems to promote historical memory and human rights (such as the conviction of former president Alberto Fujimori for corruption and human rights abuses). But other indicators raise worry, most recently the attempt by the Alan García administration to introduce legislation that would essentially give amnesty to police and military facing human rights abuse charges. In this landscape of competing memorial currents lies a project to erect a “Place of Memory.” This article follows the micro-politics of the “Place of Memory” as a means to highlight the problems of writing a national narrative where heroes and victims, the past and the present, all jockey for “truth” in the same walls of a museum.
