The United States after Bush : Perils and Promises

Course given by Professor Pierre Martin (Pol. Sc. U. of Montreal) and 12 experts

This summer school, (available in French only) in collaboration with the Chair in American Economic and Political Studies, will explore the state of social and economic affairs in the United States following the Bush administration’s two terms in office and will analysize the themes that will likely dominate the next presidential election.

As costly wars in Irak and Afghanistan continue, as the American dollar’s value decreases, as the trade gap takes massive proportions and as the mortgage crisis agitates the markets, the legendary capacity of the United States to rebound is put into question.

Considering the perils threatening the United States, what solutions do presidential candidates present to the electors? Which commitments are likely to make a difference at the polls?

A few weeks away from the vote, our Summer School The United States after Bush : Perils and Promises will provide keys to help you understand the American social, political and economic dynamics, to know the principal issues at stake in the presidential campaign and to understand the range of challenges posed to the United States’ security and influence.

The course is under the direction of professor Pierre Martin, director of the Chair in American Political and Economic Studies, U. of Montreal.

The school is being offered by the Political Science department of the Faculty of Arts and sciences and can be credited (3 credits) to undergraduate students who have completed 45 credits (POL 3400).
