The Middle-East Beyond Conflict : Context, Dynamics and Outlook

Course given by Professor Marie-Joelle Zahar (Pol. Sc. U. of Montreal) with Alain Dieckhoff (CERI, Paris) and ten experts

Please note: This Summer school is available in French only.

Associating Middle East with conflict is almost automatic, although the connection is rarely explored in depth. What are the causes and consequences of the conflicts and what are their fundamental dimensions? What are the possible solutions and which ones are feasible? This seminar proposes an interdisciplinary overview of a region in the throes of profound disruption. It seeks to supplement courses currently available in Montreal universities by offering less frequently explored perspectives on the topic. The proposed research tracks aim at broadening rather than undermining the existing military, political and historical analyses of conflicts in the Middle East.

Partner: the Centre d’études et de recherches internationales (CÉRI), Paris.

The course is under the direction of Professor Marie-Joelle Zahar (Political Science, U. of Montreal) with the support of Alain Dieckhoff (CERI, Paris)

The three Master’s credit course (POL 6412) is being offered by the political science department of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Undergraduates can register providing that they obtain a permission from their academic director.
