Globalized Crime Networks: Cybercrimes, Terrorism and Mafias
From July 9 to July 14, 2012
Network analysis methods help us understand the vitality of contemporary organized crime, its flexibility and the adaptability of its responses to authorities’ efforts to control it. Criminologists and sociologists analyze the various forms taken by transnational crime networks.
This summer school will focus on the analysis of the structure and the inner workings of criminal networks who operate on the international level. Cybercrime, terrorism, organised crime and drug trafficking will be some of the topics addressed by this summer school.
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
• Master the concepts and terminology associated with social network analysis (SNA);
• Have up-to-date knowledge of recent developments in the empirical analysis of particular forms of transnational crime (organized crime, terrorism, cybercrime, drug trafficking);
• Develop strategies for the prevention, disruption and control of criminal networks, drawing upon knowledge acquired in the course, with the aim of improving the performance of penal system workers.
