China Risen: How it Changes and Changes Us
from Tuesday, July 8th to Sunday, July 13th 2008

Six days of lectures and discussions to understand the transformations taking place in China today and discuss some of the changes caused in the West by the rise of China. The course is given entirely in English.

This course is intended for Graduates students and, under conditions, undergraduates, along with members of NGOs, civil servants, journalists, business people and interested citizens. The school is being held with CÉRIUM International Studies Masters Program of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and can carry three Master’s credits. Undergraduates can register if they obtain both the approval of their academic director and of the Université de Montréal department that offers the Summer School.

Gathering sinologists and experts from Beijing, Paris and Quebec, the summer school on China aims at offering participants a global understanding of the transformation of today’s China and an appraisal of its impacts on the Western world.

The school is being held with CÉRIUM International Studies Masters Program of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and can carry three Master’s credits (PLU 6032 B). Undergraduates can register if they obtain both the approval of their academic director and of the Université de Montréal department that offers the Summer School.

The course is given entirely in English. There is also a separate French version of the course.

The direction of the school in 2008 will be ensured by Zhiming Chen, assistant professor, Department of Political Science, Université de Montréal

and by Jean-Philippe Béja, senior researcher at the CNRS/CERI-Sciences-Po in Paris. M. Béja is the author of [In Search of a Chinese Shadow: The Democratic Movement In China(Fr).
