General information

Gathering sinologists and experts from Beijing, Paris, Harvard, HEC Montréal, Laval University, UQAM University and Université de Montréal, the summer school on China aims at offering participants a good understanding of today’s China and its impacts on the world.

Inside today’s China

Subjects examined will range from the reforms in the Chinese economy to the power of the Communist Party, the rising importance of China’s civil society and the transformation of youth culture.

The International Impacts of the Rise of China

The visiting lecturers will discuss and explore the impacts of rising China on the world and North American economy, on outsourcing, on the equilibrium of international and military relations and on global warming.

Who can register?

The summer school is intended for all interested citizens, Post-graduate students, members of NGOs and public servants.

It is also intended for business managers and entrepreneurs, who will find in the CERIUM school not business supply or investiment strategies in China - other bodies are specialised in theses aspects - but rather a broader understanding of China modern culture, organisation, society and trends and it’s impact on the West.

Why in Early July ?

The school will be held during the day, on the Université de Montréal campus, while at night, the renowned International Montreal Jazz Festival will take place downtown, presenting many free outdoor concerts.

A Dynamic Course format

Generally, mornings will be dedicated to seminars related to Chinese domestic and international economics issues while afternoons will address political, social and cultural issues.

In the first part of each half-day session, the invited expert will give a lecture. During the second part, another lecturer will be invited to add his/her own outlook on the theme discussed. Students will then participate in a further discussion with the experts.

Other visits

CERIUM will offer a two-day visit of Québec city to interested participants at the end of the course.
