The aim of this summer school is to deconstruct what Georges Coutarde has called “The Africa of conventional ideas.” It hopes to overcome the distortions induced by the media, which show Africa as a passive victim of war, famine, poverty and AIDS, and to offer alternative, comprehensive and objective views on contemporary developments on the continent. The program proposes to break with clichéd notions of Africa in order to decrypt and analyze in depth the important debates, issues (political, economic, technological, religious) and contemporary challenges which Black Africa faces today.
